Why We Built a Habit Tracker You Can Actually See

Most habit trackers have the same problem: they live on your phone, right next to the apps designed to steal your attention. Out of sight, out of mind. We built Bordi because we wanted the opposite, a tracker you walk past every day.

Start with the board

Bordi is a whiteboard. You write your habits down and check them off by hand, the way people have tracked progress for as long as there have been walls and pens. There's something about physically marking a box that an app notification can't replicate.

The difference is what happens next. A small camera reads the board and digitizes what you've written, so your handwritten progress turns into real data without you typing anything into an app.

A coach that knows when to speak up

Once your data is digital, Bordi's AI coach looks for patterns: the times of day you're most consistent, the days you tend to slip, and the streaks worth celebrating. Then it sends you one text with the single most useful thing it found, not a wall of charts.

That "one message" rule came from testing. Early versions handed raw data to the AI and let it say whatever it wanted. The results were noisy and easy to ignore. So we rebuilt the coach to rank every possible insight and surface only the highest-value one, like hitting a milestone on top of a streak.

What our beta taught us

Before launch, we ran a pilot with 20 people and called each of them afterward. A few lessons shaped the product you see today:

  • Texts beat emails. People read texts. Emails got buried.
  • Less is more. Testers wanted their data pulled together into clear takeaways, not scattered stats.
  • Simple wins. People wanted the board to look like a clean, simple object on their wall, not a gadget.

Where we're headed

We designed, packaged, and priced Bordi ourselves, and every unit so far has gone to people who found us through our content. We'll keep sharing what we learn here, from design decisions to habit advice that actually works.
